How to Build an Email List That Helps You Find Accent Students (Even If You’re Starting at Zero)(Part 3)

Part 3 of 4-Week Series: How to Build a Successful Accent Coaching Service (Even If You’re Starting from Scratch)

So many people love accents, language, and communication but never realize they can turn that passion into a high-value service people are happy to pay for.

Accent and communication training is one of the most in-demand, flexible, and low-overhead services you can offer. You can see students online or in-person. You don’t need a big audience, expensive equipment, or another degree. You just need the right method and a clear way to reach the people who already need your help.

In this 4-part series, I’m showing you the exact steps new instructors use to start getting paying clients, even with zero experience.

This week’s topic is one of the most important:

📬 Week 3: Your Email List — The Easiest Way to Find Students (Even If You’re Brand New)

If social media is where people discover you…

Email is where they decide you're the one they want to learn from.

And here’s what most new instructors are surprised (and relieved) to find out:
You don’t need to be “active” on social media for this to work.

Email does the heavy lifting on its own building trust, deepening connection, and quietly warming people up behind the scenes.

The best part?
You don’t need hundreds of subscribers.
You just need a way to stay in touch with the people already wondering, “Could this be the right teacher for me?”

Even a tiny list of 50 can turn into paying students when they know how your programs work and they hear from you regularly.

💌 Why Email Works (Even If You’re Just Starting Out)

Social media is unpredictable. Algorithms change. Stories disappear after 24 hours.

Emails stay in someone’s inbox until they choose to read them.
And the people on your list want to hear from you. That changes everything.

Your email subscribers are:
✔ already curious
✔ already learning from you
✔ already wondering if you can help them

You’re not interrupting strangers.
You’re speaking to people who asked for more from you.

Email helps you:
✨ nurture relationships
✨ share valuable tips
✨ build trust quickly
✨ invite people into coaching when they’re ready

That’s why even a simple weekly email can lead to messages like:
“I’ve been following you for months. I think I’m ready. Do you have any spots open?”

✉️ What to Send (No Advanced Copywriting Skills Required)

You don’t need long newsletters or polished writing. You also don’t need to show your face if that feels uncomfortable. Many successful instructors (myself included, at least for a very long time) grow their audience with voice-only videos, slides, blog posts (like the one you are reading right now!), or simple graphics.

Here are a few simple ideas:

• Quick pronunciation tips
• A short story from your coaching or learning experience
• A myth about accents or communication
• A question that gets people thinking about their speaking style
• A short practice prompt or micro-exercise
• A friendly introduction: “Hi, I’m [Your Name], and here’s why I love helping people speak with confidence.”

Each email builds trust and gently reminds your subscribers:
“I can help you with this.”

And that’s when students decide to book a session.

🚀 How to Start (Even If You Have Zero Subscribers)

Here’s how to get your first few people on your list:

  1. Create one helpful freebie
A quick pronunciation guide, checklist, or a 3-minute warm-up video.

  2. Offer it on social
Tell people what you made and ask if they want it.

  3. Add a signup form
Use ConvertKit, MailerLite, or even Google Forms to start.

  4. Send your first email
Keep it warm, simple, and helpful.

  5. Email every week or every other week
Teach one thing. Answer one question. Build one connection.

You don’t need a funnel. You don’t need tech skills.
You just need to start.

🎯 Remember: The Goal Isn’t a Big List — It’s a Warm List

Most new instructors wait too long to start building their list.

But the ones who grow the fastest start early, even before they feel ready.

You don’t need thousands of subscribers.
A small list of 50 to 150 genuinely interested people can absolutely lead to paid sessions.

These are the people who will read your emails, save your tips, reply with questions, and eventually say:

“I’ve been saving your emails for months. I think I’m ready.”

And that’s the moment you’ll be glad you didn’t wait.

🌟 Your Next Step

You don’t need a perfect setup or fancy technology.
Start with one freebie. One signup form. One email.

That’s the bridge between a curious follower and a paying student.

Start collecting emails now, even if you won’t begin coaching for another month or two.

Your future students are out there.
And building your email list is the easiest way to help them find you.
